Sturgis,
SD
Events
during the 2001 Sturgis Rally
This
will be the 10th year of an event called the Governor's Tour.
The first year, 1992, the tour was led by then Governor George
Mickelson. He rode a Harley Sportster owned by local real estate
agent Connie Ruebel. In April of the next year Governor Mickelson
was killed in an airplane accident. This year, with the permission
of the family, a Governor Mickelson Memorial Ride will be held
August 10. All monies collected will benefit the SD Cultural
Center in Pierre to complete the third phase of a permanent
exhibit. The price is $20 per person and includes stops at Mt.
Rushmore and Crazy Horse. To get to those sites, the tour will
travel a great riding road - Vanocker Canyon up to Nemo.(see
below for more info on this road) If interested in registering
contact Premier Rally Services, Inc. at premier@sturgisrallynews.com.
The
Journey Museum in Rapid City is hosting a motorcycle event
during the rally called "Biker Generation". Featured
will be art of Michael Lichter and custom bikes by several artists
including Jesse James, Ron Simms, and Arlen Ness. The dates
are August 4 to 11.

Great
Faces/Great Places
For
those persons who have never visited this area, there are a
couple of great places that are a must.
Spearfish Canyon located in the Northern Hills is a great ride.
Towering rock walls are interspersed with pine and aspen trees.
Bridal Veil Falls is located right along the road. Roughlock
Falls is located about 1 mile off the road but requires a brief
walk. It is worth the effort.
The Needles Highway is for the more experienced rider. A brief
stretch of road located within C嘑+GqRTxt9P끜f$'h#uVy/>EݍjF7 |
